Teacher Workshop Information

All educators bringing a class on a Discover the Flyway field trip are required to attend a Teacher Workshop prior to their scheduled field trip. This is a one-time requirement and applies to all educators, even if they are attending with another teacher who has previously completed the workshop.

Educators may reserve a field trip before attending a workshop, but the workshop must be completed before the scheduled program date.

The 2026-27 Teacher Workshops are scheduled for Saturday, August 29th, 2026, Saturday, October 17th, 2026, and Saturday, January 23rd, 2027.

Funding Opportunities

Yolo Basin Foundation offers two funding opportunities to help make participation in Discover the Flyway field trips more accessible. You may apply for one or both grants if financial assistance is needed in order to attend.

Eligibility: You may be eligible for funding if your school qualifies for Title 1 funds or if your class would not otherwise be able to afford the cost of transportation and/or field trip fees.

Transportation Mini-grant: The Transportation Mini-grant covers the cost of bus transportation to a Discover the Flyway field trip. To be eligible you must be using bus transportation and meet the criteria above. This grant will cover the total cost of transportation.

Fund-A-Field-Trip Grant: The Fund-A-Field-Trip Grant helps cover the cost of Discover the Flyway field trip fees.

Number of classes attending this field trip. Maximum number of students per field trip is 30 (if selecting 3 activities) or 40 (if selecting four activities). NO EXCEPTIONS:

The schedule for a science field trip varies based on the type of science field trip you select. Make sure you have enough time in your school's schedule, including transportation both ways, to meet the required time for the field trip option you select.

Three-Activity Science Field Trip with Tour ($315)
- Do not choose this option if you are bringing more than 30 students.

Social Science Field Trip
The Patwin Life Unit (3rd grade suggested) has four learning activities. Make sure you have enough time in your school's schedule, including transportation both ways, to meet the required time for the field trip option you select.

Traditional Field Trips (with tour)

Traditional Discover the Flyway field trips begin at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters and include your selected learning activities, time for lunch, and a guided tour of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. These programs conclude after the tour.

No Tour Field Trips

No tour field trips take place entirely at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters. They include the same learning activity options and time for lunch but do not include a tour. These programs conclude after lunch.

Field Trip Payments

You do not need to make a payment during the registration process. When you get to the payment screen, you can select "Pay Later" as your payment option. You will receive an invoice with payment information and instructions via email after your registration is submitted.
